TUTORIAL HOURS: after school TBA

SCHOOL PHONE:

Class Meeting Times:  First period A day plus mandatory tutoring 1 hour per week

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

1.    Success Instinct

There is absolutely no research correlation between success and family background, race, national origin, financial status, or even educational accomplishments. There is but one correlation with success, and that is attitude.

            2. High Expectations

It is my belief that people will not feel that they have accomplished a great deal by memorizing simple facts. But they can gain a sense of accomplishment by completing a complex assignment that required a great deal of research and effort. I believe you all can succeed and will never give up on you or insult you by lowering my standards. I will always have high expectations for you in class and I will be there to support you at all times.

Studying is a must as you cannot use notes on any exams or quizzes. Speaking of Quizzes, they will be given without notice so always review before you come to class.

VI. GRADING POLICY

A.   Grading Scale- Grades will be assigned on an overall basis of performance. They are based on the following standard percentage scale:

VI.          ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP POLICIES

A.    Attendance: Douglas High School requires a student not to be absent more than seven times in a semester. On the occurrence of the eighth absence the student will lose credit in that class.

B.      Make-up: When a student has an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to get the missed work. If you are present for any other classes that day and knew ahead of time of a test or due date then you are expected to come in after school to turn it in or take the exam. If you miss the entire day the work will be made up the next SCHOOL day. Labs cannot be made up. You will be given an exploratory assignment in its place.

C.    Tardies: Being late to class is unacceptable. If you come to class late you will owe me that time plus 10% after school. Do not expect to come late to class because you were getting breakfast or lunch.

    VII.      ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

·         Cheating on exams: Any student found cheating (using notes, books, or obtaining answers from a classmate’s paper) will receive an automatic grade of “0”.

·         Plagiarism of another student’s work: Any paper which has been copied all or in part from that of another student will receive an automatic grade of “0”. If the original paper was willingly shared, both parties will receive a grade of “0”.

·         Plagiarism from a published source: This is the most difficult form of academic misconduct that a student must deal with. It primarily involves paraphrasing or copying someone else’s thoughts and/or ideas without giving them credit. Depending on the severity of the offense, the penalty for plagiarism will either be a “0” or the chance to rewrite the paper in question, with the assessment of standard penalties for late papers.

VIII.       Classroom rules, procedures, and policies need to be followed in order for us to have a productive year. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you and guarantee that will be an exciting and interesting year for all of us.
